Mary Grant leaves role as Phones 4U CEO

Mary Grant, who was CEO of the Phones 4U retail business, is reported to have left the company for ‘personal reasons’.

Mobile News reports that Phones 4U Group CEO Tim Whiting is temporarily taking on her role in addition to his own work.

EE plans temporary 4G coverage for Glastonbury festival

EE has confirmed it’s the official technology and communications partner of the 2013 Glastonbury Festival, taking over from the role its Orange brand has performed in previous years.

The company says it’ll install a temporary 4G network for the festival as well as increasing capacity for 2G and 3G users.

BT now has more than 5 million WiFi hotspots

BT’s WiFi service now has more than 5 million hotspots in homes and commercial properties across the UK and Ireland, having added more than 20,000 new hotspots every week during the past 12 months.

The company says more than 400 million connections were made on its WiFi networks between April 2012 and March 2013.

Nokia announces Lumia 925 smartphone with new camera features

Nokia has launched a new Windows Phone 8 smartphone in London this morning. It’s called the Nokia Lumia 925 and is described as ‘a new interpretation’ of the Nokia Lumia 920.

Unlike the previous flagship device, the Lumia 925 is lighter and has a partly metal body along with an AMOLED screen.

EE and Ipsos MORI defend their privacy policies following Sunday Times report

EE - the mobile network run by Everything Everywhere Ltd - and research company Ipsos MORI have both defended their privacy policies following a Sunday Times report.

The report, which was headlined “Secrets of 27m mobile phones offered to police”, said location data and other information about millions of EE mobile phone customers had been offered for sale to the Metropolitan Police.
