RIM starts using TomTom traffic for BlackBerry apps

In-car navigation provider TomTom has announced that Research In Motion is using TomTom’s data for its BlackBerry Traffic, BlackBerry Maps and BlackBerry Locate services. It means that the BlackBerry Traffic application now offers real-time road information from TomTom HD Traffic. In addition, developers can include TomTom mapping and traffic information in their own apps.

Nuno Campos, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for TomTom Licensing, said “Through our strategic relationship with RIM, we are enabling the future of mobile travel with powerful location content and real-time information, including HD Traffic. TomTom’s market-leading real-time traffic information will provide BlackBerry customers with the best mobile travel experience.”
