Microsoft withdraws from the joint-owned Barnes & Noble NOOK eBook business

Barnes & Noble and Microsoft have agreed to end their NOOK eBook partnership.

The two organisations formed NOOK Media LLC in 2012, combining Barnes & Noble’s digital eBook and College education businesses into a new company that was 17.6% owned by Microsoft.

Amazon announces new Fire tablets and Kindle ebook readers

Online retailer Amazon has announced new Kindle ebook readers and new Fire tablets coming to the UK.

The entry-level Kindle now has a touch-sensitive screen, a faster processor and double the storage of its predecessor. It’s priced from £59 and will be available next month.

Sony stops producing eBook readers for consumers

It’s reported that Sony has decided not to introduce a successor to its consumer PRS-T3 eBook reader, although it’ll continue producing specialist business readers that use its ‘digital paper’ system.

The company closed its online eBook stores in the USA and Europe earlier this year.
