The Guardian reports that BT is threatening the government with legal action if it continues with its Digital Britain broadband plans. As part of the government's plans to make 2Mbps fixed-line or mobile broadband via available across the country, it wants to extend the mobile networks' 3G licences. However, BT has apparently written to business secretary Lord Mandelson because it believes the mobile phone companies are being given an unjustifiable government subsidy by having their licences extended. The deadline for consultation on the Digital Britain plans ends in February 2010.
