Amazon has announced a series of new products. The Kindle Paperwhite is described as  the world’s most advanced e-reader, offering a higher resolution display than previous readers, a built-in light and up to 8 weeks of battery life. There’ll be WiFi-only and WiFi+3G versions.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9

An update to the company’s Kindle Fire tablet has also been revealed, along with three new Kindle Fire HD tablets: one with a 7-inch display ($199) and two with 8.9-inch screens ($299 and $499). The top-spec 8.9-inch tablet is officially called the Kindle Fire HD with 4G LTE wireless and will have an annual charge of $49.99, including 250MB of mobile data per month. All of the new devices have a strong focus on multimedia entertainment; the 7-inch versions go on sale this month while the 8.9-inch tablets will be available in the USA from November.

Amazon announced its first Android-based Kindle Fire tablet in the USA a year ago and started selling the device in November 2011. It reportedly captured 22% of tablet sales in the US during the nine months it was available.

UPDATE: The Kindle Fire is available to pre-order in the UK for £129, while the 7-inch Fire HD is available from £159. Both are due for a UK release on 25th October.

UK availability for the other devices hasn't been announced.
