Earlier this year Nokia was at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show talking about ‘Terminal Mode’, a proposed industry standard that would let smartphones work with in-car entertainment and information systems. Not only would smartphone features and services be available through the car's audio system and controls, information could be exchanged between the smartphone and car systems.

Nokia has now released the Terminal Mode technology specification, which it's produced with the CE4A (Consumer Electronics for Automotive) consortium. In addition, Nokia has recently agreed partnerships with Alpine Electronics, Continental, Fiat, Harman Becker, Magneti Marelli and Valmet Automotive. A Terminal Mode Summit is planned for June 2010.
