T-Mobile UK says it is aligning its fair use policies to give its mobile internet service a usage limit of 500MB per month. However, this ‘fair use’ limit only affects downloading, streaming and online videos – it won’t stop customers from using email or browsing the web.

Unlike other operators, T-Mobile doesn’t charge customers for exceeding their limit; instead it restricts their mobile internet service.

The new limit comes into effect from 1st February 2011.

Most customers had previously enjoyed a 1GB monthly limit, although some Android users had up to 3GB. The network has said mobile internet use isn’t a ‘core’ service and insists the dramatic reduction doesn’t allow customers to terminate their contracts early.
