Vodafone stores forced to close by tax protests

A number of Vodafone UK stores were forced to close yesterday following protests against the company's recent tax deal with HMRC. The company's Oxford Street store in London was targeted on Wednesday, with other protests following across the UK this weekend.

Social media, not business, dominates mobile broadband activity for Three UK

Three UK has published a breakdown of the amount of data used by its mobile broadband customers; people connecting to the internet using a mobile broadband 'dongle' or a MiFi mobile WiFi router.

Social network Facebook is the most popular service based on data usage, followed by social gaming site Zynga.

No underground mobile service yet – but BT launches WiFi trial on the tube

London Underground and BT are launching a six-month trial of WiFi service at London's Charing Cross tube station. The service, which will be available from 1st November, uses the BT Openzone service. It'll be chargeable, although around 5 million BT broadband customers and BT Openzone customers are eligible to use the service without paying any extra. Live Transport for London service updates will be available to all WiFi users.

Motorola sees first quarterly profit for years, while LG profit falls

Motorola's quarterly results show the first operating profit for over three years. Net quarterly profit was $109 million (£68.5 million), up from $12 million year-on-year, while revenue was up 13% to $4.9 billion.
