Report says mobile app store revenue will almost double next year

Canalys has forecast that direct revenue to mobile app stores from the sale of apps, in-app purchases and subscriptions will reach $14.1 billion next year, up 92% from this year's anticipated total of $7.3 billion. The increase is expected to continue for the next few years, reaching $36.7 billion by 2015.

This equates to a four-year compound annual growth rate of almost 50%.

ZTE predicts it'll sell 80 million mobiles this year

China's ZTE Corporation says it expects to ship more than 80 million handsets this year, up from 60 million units in 2010.

In addition it says it's sold more than two million ZTE Blade handsets, a phone that’s also known as the Orange San Francisco in the UK and the Softbank Venus in Japan.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to hit the UK on 4th August

Samsung Electronics says its new slim tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, will be available in the UK on 4th August 2011. It'll launch with Android v3.1 and will be offered in 3G+WiFi and WiFi-only versions.

As the name suggests, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 10.1-inch WXGA TFT LCD screen.

Google+ offers photo sharing, location tagging and group messaging on mobiles

Google has announced the launch of a new service called Google+ ('Google Plus'). It's currently an invitation-only trial with "some rough edges", according to the company.

The Google+ project is seen by many as an alternative to Facebook, enabling users to create 'Circles' of friends.
