RBS and NatWest customers can now use cash machines via mobile

Customers of the Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest can now withdraw money from a cash machine by using their mobile phone instead of a bank card. The ‘GetCash’ service is available via the banks’ free app on Apple, Android and BlackBerry devices.

A six-digit code is generated by the smartphone app; the code is then entered into the cashpoint. It’s similar to the service designed to help customers who’ve lost their wallets.

GetCash is currently available at 8,000 RBS, NatWest and Tesco branded ATMs in the UK. Each six-digit code is valid for three hours and can be used to withdraw a maximum of £300.

Ben Green, Head of Mobile at NatWest and RBS, said "This has never been done anywhere in the UK, and yet is a really simple and secure way to help our customers get cash whenever and wherever they need it. We’ve heard countless stories from customers who’ve left their wallet behind, or parents who need a quick way to send money across to their children immediately - GetCash means these problems have been solved in a totally secure and painless way."
