Apple plans to acquire security company AuthenTec

Apple is planning to take over mobile and network security company AuthenTec in a deal that’s said to be worth around $356 million (£227 million). AuthenTec provides a variety of security solutions, from encryption technology to fingerprint sensors, for mobile phones and computers.

The company has already seen its fingerprint sensors integrated in 15 million mobile phones. Customers include Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Samsung, Sky and Texas Instruments.
