Microsoft sells hundreds of AOL patents to Facebook

A couple of weeks ago Microsoft agreed to acquire around 925 patents and associated patent applications from AOL in a deal worth just over one billion dollars.

Microsoft has now agreed to let Facebook buy a portion of that patent portfolio for $550 million.

AOL and Microsoft announce billion-dollar patent agreement

AOL has agreed to sell over 800 of its patents and associated patent applications to Microsoft, with Microsoft also being given permission to use the patents AOL is keeping.

The total deal is worth $1.056 billion (£664 million).
