Android malware infections trebled last year, according to new report

Mobile security company NQ Mobile has published a new report that says the number of mobile malware threats increased by 163% last year to more than 65,000. Almost all of the new malware discoveries were targeted at the Android platform.

NQ Mobile estimates that 32.8 million Android devices were infected with malware last year, which is an increase of more than 200% since 2011.

Kaspersky Lab discovers Android malware that infects PCs

The securelist.com blog run by anti-virus specialists Kaspersky Lab has discovered a malicious Android app that targeted the user’s computer as well as their phone.

Consumers who downloaded an app called ‘Superclean’ or ‘DroidCleaner’ risked infecting their desktop computer with malware.

Two out of five smartphones in Russia have a malware infection, says new report

Mobile security company Lookout has published its State of Mobile Security 2012 report, warning that web-based threats remain the most prevalent threat to consumers.

It’s calculated that four in ten people are likely to encounter a web-based security threat in a year.

Android mobile malware has almost trebled in the past three months

New figures from digital security company Kaspersky Lab show that the number of new malicious programs targeting the Android platform has almost trebled in the past three months.

The second quarter of 2012 has seen over 14,900 new malicious programs targeting the Android OS. In Q1 2012 there were just under 5,450.
