New Motorola smartphone will be born in the USA

Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside has announced that the company’s forthcoming flagship smartphone - the Moto X - will be assembled in the USA, although components will be sourced worldwide.

The new device is being described as the first smartphone that’s ever been assembled in the United States.

Google quarterly results show profits up but Motorola Mobility still losing money

The first quarter 2013 financial results for Google show consolidated revenue of $13.97 billion (£9.1 billion; up 31% year-on-year) and net income of $3.35 billion (up 16% year-on-year).

Google’s UK revenue was $1.39 billion.

The Cell Phone Turns 40

Forty years ago today the cell phone era began on the streets of New York City. The historic first cell phone call was made by Martin Cooper, director of systems operations for the communications division of the Motorola company, to his main rival at Bell Labs.

Happy anniversary to the first mobile phone call (sort of)

Today is the 40th anniversary of what’s often called the first ever mobile phone call.

It was 3rd April 1973 when Marty Cooper of Motorola stood in front of a crowd of reporters in New York and used a handheld mobile phone to call the fixed-line phone of Dr Joel Engel, one of his commercial rivals.
