Telefonica chooses Nokia Siemens Networks to prepare O2 UK for 4G

Telefónica UK, which operates the O2 network, has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to prepare it for 4G LTE roll-out in London and the South East of England.

It follows a 12-month trial of LTE technology across parts of London.

Nokia Q3 figures show another quarterly loss

Nokia Corporation has published its quarterly results for the third quarter of 2012. Net sales were down 19% on the same quarter last year to €7.24 billion and the company made a much bigger loss than it did in Q3 2011: €576 million compared with €71 million last year.

However, the loss was less than the two previous quarters.

Everything Everywhere and NSN launch a mobile-connected vending machine partnership

Everything Everywhere and Nokia Siemens Networks have announced a machine-to-machine partnership that will link vending machines to NSN's cloud-based VendMe service via Everything Everywhere SIM cards.

It allows vending machine owners to take advantage of remote stock monitoring, location-based promotional messages and mobile payments.

Everything Everywhere and BT Wholesale extend 4G trial in Cornwall

Everything Everywhere and BT Wholesale have announced an extension to their trial of 4G LTE mobile broadband in Cornwall.

The trial, which has been running in the area around St. Newlyn East in Cornwall since October 2011, has been given Ofcom approval to continue until the end of June 2012.

Femtocell shipments in 2011 were lower than expected, says ABI Research

Around 2.5 million femtocells were shipped worldwide this year according to ABI Research, substantially less than the three to four million previously expected.

An increase in femtocell commercial operator contracts - a total of 88 in 2011 - had led to expectations of increased shipments.
