A day after announcing that its new chairman will be Gerard Kleisterlee, Vodafone has revealed figures for the final quarter of 2010.

Overall group revenue was up 3% year-on-year to almost £11.9 billion, although European revenues fell slightly. Voice revenues still accounted for most of that, despite falling by 1.4%. Data revenue increased by 27.2% year-on-year to £1.3 billion in Q4 2010, overtaking messaging revenue for the first time ever.

Vittorio Colao, Vodafone CEO, said “This is the fifth successive quarter of service revenue growth improvement, with strong results from India, Turkey, the UK and Vodacom. In addition, Verizon Wireless continues to show strong momentum. Our performance has been driven by the effective execution of our strategy to strengthen our businesses and deliver growth, particularly in data services and emerging markets.”

In the UK, Vodafone ended 2010 with 19.1 million customers, of which 50.8% are on prepaid tariffs. Vodafone Group has around 359 million mobile customers worldwide.
