Motorola Mobility reported to be cutting 1,200 more jobs

Motorola Mobility, which was bought by Google last year, is reported to be cutting 1,200 more jobs.

The company announced restructuring plans last August with around 4,000 jobs being lost at Motorola facilities around the world.

User satisfaction survey puts iPhone 5 in fifth place behind four Android devices

A study of mobile and tablet users in the USA has found that the iPhone 5 came fifth for user satisfaction, with Android devices taking the top four places.

The most satisfying device was the Motorola Atrix HD, a 4G LTE smartphone launched in July last year.

As far as I’m concerned, they fall into one of three categories: much as expected, better than expected or worse than expected. Anyway, it’s the time of year when some of the biggest names in the mobile telecoms industry publish their financial results – so here we go.

Quarterly results from Google and Motorola

Google’s quarterly results show consolidated revenues of $14.42 billion (£9.11 billion), up 36% year-on-year, while net income was $2.89 billion.

Revenue from its Motorola mobile business was down to $1.51 billion; the business unit made a $353 million operating loss in the quarter.
