Orange confirms confidence in CEO Stéphane Richard following legal investigation

Orange Group’s Board of Directors has issued a statement reasserting its full confidence in CEO Stéphane Richard, who was placed under formal investigation for fraud last week.

The investigation relates to Mr Richard’s previous role working for the French government; it’s been alleged he was involved in agreeing a €285 million arbitration payment to businessman Bernard Tapie that was inappropriately high.

France Telecom to become Orange

France Télécom, which has traded as ‘Orange’ within France and abroad for several years, is formally changing the company name to Orange on 1st July 2013. The decision was taken at the shareholders’ AGM today.

Originally a French government department, France Telecom became a separate business in 1990 and was later privatised.

EE plans temporary 4G coverage for Glastonbury festival

EE has confirmed it’s the official technology and communications partner of the 2013 Glastonbury Festival, taking over from the role its Orange brand has performed in previous years.

The company says it’ll install a temporary 4G network for the festival as well as increasing capacity for 2G and 3G users.

EE quarterly results show 318,000 4G customers in the UK

Quarterly results from EE show that 318,000 customers (2.3% of EE’s post-paid customer base) have signed up for the network’s 4G service in the first five months.

It says this means it’s on track to have more than one million 4G customers by the end of 2013.
