Visa Europe introduces instant pan-European person-to-person mobile payments

Visa Europe is enhancing its mobile payment service with two new features: Multi-Currency and Immediate Payments. They’ll be available to any of the organisation’s member banks and payment service providers.

Immediate Payments is being launched in the UK this week, making it possible for consumers to receive money sent from other mobile phones in less than 30 minutes.

Vodafone launches M-Pesa mobile payments in India

Vodafone India has partnered with ICICI Bank to launch the M-Pesa mobile money transfer and payment service in India. It’s estimated that approximately 700 million people in the country have no access to conventional banking.

M-Pesa was first launched in Kenya in 2007, allowing customers to send and receive small amounts of money on mobile phones.

Intuit launches its own mobile payment service for UK businesses

Business accounting software specialist Intuit has announced a new mobile-based payment system for retailers.

It’s called Intuit Pay and has been designed to let UK businesses take card payments face-to-face and over the phone. The service combines a free iOS app and a chip & PIN card reader, which is also free at the moment.

New report says direct billing could help mobile operators regain their share of the content market

A new report from Juniper Research says ‘direct carrier billing’ - enabling consumers to charge purchases to their mobile phone account - could transform the mobile content market. It’s found that third-party content providers with direct carrier billing have seen a five to six-fold increase in conversion rates compared with credit card billing.

In addition, average transaction values are also higher.
