The latest Simmons Connect panel from Experian Marketing Services has shown that the average smartphone user in the USA spends 58 minutes on their device every day.
Just over a quarter of this time (26%) is spent talking and another 20% sending text messages.

New figures from Informa Telecoms & Media expect twice as many over-the-top instant messages as SMS text messages to be sent between mobile phone users this year.
It says an average of 19.1 billion OTT messages were sent from smartphone apps each day in 2012, compared with an average of 17.6 billion person-to-person SMS messages.

New figures from messaging threat protection specialists Cloudmark have revealed that text message spammers used more than 350,000 unique SMS spam variants in 2012.
December saw the widest variety, with more than 53,000 different variants received worldwide.
