Nokia announces Lumia 925 smartphone with new camera features

Nokia has launched a new Windows Phone 8 smartphone in London this morning. It’s called the Nokia Lumia 925 and is described as ‘a new interpretation’ of the Nokia Lumia 920.

Unlike the previous flagship device, the Lumia 925 is lighter and has a partly metal body along with an AMOLED screen.

Nokia Lumia 928 revealed with exclusive USA deal

Nokia’s new flagship Lumia 928 device - described by the company as “a new expression of the world’s most innovative smartphone” - has been announced today.

It’s launching as an exclusive product to Verizon Wireless in the USA.

Growth for Android and Windows Phone in the UK

Figures from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech show that Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is gaining market share in the UK, although Android and Apple still dominate.

The first quarter of 2013 saw Windows-based devices accounting for 7% of smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2013, up from 2.9% a year ago.

Nokia quarterly results show shipments down on last year

Nokia’s interim report for the first quarter of 2013 showed shipments of its Lumia smartphones were up 27% on the previous quarter to 5.6 million units. It’s expecting even greater sequential growth of these Windows Phone smartphones in the next quarter.

Total smart device shipments were down 49% year-on-year to 6.1 million and other mobile phone volumes were down 21% year-on-year to 55.8 million units.

Research shows app downloads up 11% this quarter

Research company Canalys has used its App Interrogator tool to investigate downloads and purchases from the leading app stores in more than 50 countries.

It’s found that downloads from the Apple App Store, Google Play, the Windows Phone Store and BlackBerry World in the first quarter of 2013 had increased by 11% from the previous quarter, reaching 13.4 billion downloads.
