Premium watch brand TAG Heuer has announced a version of its ‘Meridiist’ luxury mobile phone with a transparent solar panel on its display screen.

The TAG Heuer MERIDIIST INFINITE handset is being produced by solar technology company Sunpartner Technologies and by Atelier Haute Communication, which also produces phones for Versace.

Just 1,911 limited edition phones will be produced, celebrating the TAG Heuer ‘Time of Trip’ chronograph of 1911. They’ll be constructed from titanium, carbon and rubber.

Solar power is generated by Sunpartner’s Wysips Crystal, which is placed between the phone’s sapphire crystal glass and the LCD screen. It uses a thin layer of photovoltaic cells combined with micro-lenses, enabling it to charge under natural or artificial light.

Stéphane Bohbot, President of Atelier Haute Communication, said “Thanks to the skill and expertise of our two French companies, we are proud to present the first luxury phone with a perpetual power reserve. The advanced technology of Sunpartner Technologies combined with the expertise of Atelier Haute Communication have allowed us to create an exceptional product for one of the most prestigious watch brands in the world, TAG Heuer.”
