There’s new competition over mobile train tickets with news that UK rail ticket website Raileasy.co.uk has launched an application in partnership with mBlox and Concept Data Technologies. It follows last year’s mobile app from thetrainline.com and Masabi.

The Raileasy application is available for a wide range of phones including Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile devices. It can be used to review timetables and to buy tickets with credit cards registered on Raileasy’s site. Unusually, Raileasy is paying the data costs by using mBlox's Sender-Pays Data service.

George Sikking, Raileasy Managing Director, said “We are already seeing 16% of all rail users purchasing via online and mobile channels, and this is a trend we expect to see increase further throughout 2011, particularly as end-users become more confident regarding the security of m-commerce. The Raileasy app was designed with the user in mind. The result is an easy to use and secure app with comprehensive functionality that lets traveller buy tickets wherever they have a mobile signal.”
