A mobile phone fraud worth £60,000 was revealed when five delivery drivers received suspended prison sentences at Bristol Crown Court last week. 195 mobile phones had been ordered online from The Carphone Warehouse using false names but genuine addresses. Instead of delivering the phones to the correct addresses, the drivers were paid £1000 each for delivering them to the person who’d placed the fraudulent orders.
Each of the drivers was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work. They’ve also all lost their jobs with the courier company. Apparently the Carphone Warehouse has been the victim of a similar fraud on previous occasions.
