Doro has announced a new easy-to-use mobile phone that’s aimed at older users.

The Doro PhoneEasy 632 has a flip-open ‘clamshell’ design with an LED display on the front to show the time, message alerts, calls and battery status.

Doro, the Swedish company best known for its easy-to-use handsets, has launched a new smartphone.

The Doro Liberto 820 is designed for older users who may need additional support or encouragement with their mobile device.

Microsoft’s Devices Group has revealed a new low-cost feature phone.

The Nokia 130 has a SIM-free price of €19 before tax (£15+VAT; £18 incl. VAT) and is expected to start shipping this autumn. Availability is expected in China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Mobile phone producer KAZAM has integrated rugged phone brand ToughShield into its business.

In addition, it’s set up a new ‘KAZAM for business’ division.

London-based mobile phone manufacturer Kazam has announced the availability of its Trooper X3.5 Android-powered smartphone and the Life B4 feature phone at Phones 4u.

As with other Kazam smartphones, the Kazam Trooper X3.5 is offered with free cracked screen replacement within the first 12 months plus a two-year warranty.

Recent figures released by ABI Research have prompted the market intelligence company to ask whether Google is losing control of the Android ecosystem.

At first glance, Android dominated smartphone shipments for the final quarter of 2013. ABI Research says 77% of the 287 million smartphones shipped in Q4 2013 were running Android.

After initially suffering from slow pick up by consumers, 4G has begun to accelerate, and is now well on the way to the forecasted one billion subscribers by 2017. In fact EE, owner of T-Mobile and Orange, recently announced the addition of 493,000 new 4G customers to its existing base of 1.2 million.

This week, new Ofcom rules came into force. They’re designed to avoid unexpected price rises during the minimum term of a mobile phone contract. Yes, just because you signed a fixed-term contract doesn’t mean the charges can’t increase. Networks said they needed this option in case of inflation or regulatory changes. Customers felt trapped.
