Android has more free apps than Apple iPhone, says new report

Application store analyst company Distimo says Google’s Android Market has overtaken the Apple App Store when it comes to free applications. It’s calculated that Android currently has 134,342 free applications while the Apple App Store has 121,845 free applications for iPhones.

Distimo says the Android Market will become the world’s largest app store (in terms of the number of applications) in around five months if all application stores maintain their current growth rate. Apple’s App Store is expected to hold second place, with the new Windows Phone 7 Marketplace moving into third place by overtaking BlackBerry App World and Nokia’s Ovi Store.
