A quarter of organisations have seen mobile malware infection

UK-based Goode Intelligence has just published the third edition of its GI mSecurity Survey Report, revealing that 24% of participating organisations reported evidence of mobile malware within their business in 2011.  The figure was just 9% in 2010.

Despite this increase, just 18% of organisations are protecting mobile devices with anti-malware solutions.

The GI mSecurity Survey Report shows that over two-thirds of organisations currently support the ‘bring your own device’ trend for mobile connectivity. Almost half of these allow their employees to store company data on personally-owned devices - but 50% are not encrypting the data stored on them

Alan Goode, company founder and report author, said “The past three years have been extraordinary for mobile and there are no signs of this abating. Smartphones and tablet computers are having a transformational effect on the way that an organisation does business and manages information. There is a big question over whether information security professionals can keep up with the pace of change currently seen with smart mobile devices and can manage the risks associated with them.”

According to the report, Apple’s iOS is now the dominant mobile platform within organisations.
