Some Intel security products for mobile devices will be free

Elements of McAfee mobile security products will become free for Apple iOS and Android devices, according to a statement made by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich at International CES 2014. More details will be revealed in the next few months.

In addition, the McAfee name will be dropped as an online security brand, with future products becoming part of the new ‘Intel Security’ family.

Brian Krzanich said “The complexity of keeping digital identities safe grows as mobile applications and devices become a more important part of our daily lives. Intel’s intent is to intensify our efforts dedicated to making the digital world more secure, and staying ahead of threats to private information on mobile and wearable devices.”

McAfee was founded by John McAfee in 1987, although Mr McAfee left the anti-virus company in 1994 and sold his stake in the business a couple of years later. It became an Intel subsidiary in 2011.
