Intel announces new chips for netbooks

IntelThe tablet hasn’t killed off the netbook, according to the latest news from Intel. It’s announced the availability of the latest Intel Atom processors, which had previously been code-named ‘Cedar Trail’.

From early next year, manufacturers including Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Toshiba are expected to produce netbooks that can handle 1080p high-definition video playback and Blu-Ray content. These next-generation netbooks could also offer up to 10 hours of battery life, with power consumption cut by 20% when compared to the previous platform.

The dual-core Intel Atom processor N2600 and Intel Atom processor N2800 will support a range of netbook operating systems including Windows, MeeGo and Tizen.
