Former HTC employees start their own smartphone business

Two former department heads at HTC UK are setting up their own mobile phone company.

Michael Coombes, who’d been head of HTC’s UK sales, and James Atkins, the former head of UK marketing for HTC, are behind a London-based company called Kazam. It’s expected to launch a range of smartphones later this year.

James Atkins, who’s Chief Marketing Officer at Kazam, said “There is a real opportunity for a new mobile brand to disrupt the status quo. We are passionate about delivering a truly positive mobile experience that doesn’t just stop once you’ve bought the phone. Kazam is about stunning design, robust hardware and intuitive technology, underpinned by outstanding customer service.”

The company hasn’t released many details about its devices, although company CEO Michael Coombes said “it’s important that we don’t adopt a one size fits all approach. We aim to provide quality smartphones that are accessible to everyone.”
