Quarterly results for Motorola, Orange and Virgin

Motorola has published its third-quarter financial results, revealing total sales of $5.5 billion and mobile device sales of $1.7 billion, having shipped 13.6 million handsets. Those sales figures are down on the previous year, yet the company still managed to show a profit of $12 million – better than the break-even figure many analysts expected.

France Telecom generated 12.686 billion Euro during Q3 2009 and saw its mobile customer base exceed 128 million users worldwide. In the UK, Orange now has 6.637 million ‘pay monthly’ customers (41.2% of the customer base), with the total number of Orange customers rising 1.9% year-on-year to 16.11 million.

Virgin Media's quarterly figures show overall revenue up 1.3% year-on-year to £953 million. It added 88,000 new mobile subscribers, up 51% from the same period in 2008, although mobile revenue fell.
