Qualcomm acquires gesture recognition technology from GestureTek

Qualcomm Incorporated has acquired a collection of gesture-recognition assets from GestureTek. GestureTek will retain a number of other assets connected with its gesture-controlled digital sign business.

Gesture recognition technology will now be integrated into Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors, giving manufacturers the ability to produce smartphones, tablets and entertainment devices that are controlled by human gestures.

Steve Mollenkopf, executive vice president and group president of Qualcomm, said “Applications processors are enabling a range of new ways for consumers to interface with their home entertainment and mobile devices. Our acquisition of key technology and assets from GestureTek will strengthen Qualcomm's smartphone product portfolio and enable our customers to launch products with new and compelling user experiences.”

GestureTek’s current product portfolio includes large multi-touch display screens, interactive digital signs and interactive floors.
