Samsung launches its own mobile instant messaging service

Samsung Electronics has announced a free mobile messaging service called ChatON. It’s expected to be rolled out across all major smartphone and feature phone platforms in the next few weeks, enabling users to communicate using text, images, handwritten notes and video. Users can chat one-to-one or in groups.

Ho Soo Lee, Head of the Media Solution Center at Samsung Electronics, said “With ChatON, Samsung has vastly simplified mobile communication by allowing users to connect to our upcoming feature phones and all major smartphones in the market. Users around the world can now enjoy easier and richer interactivity with whoever they want, in the format they want—this is mobile communication reinvented and democratized.”

ChatON will be a rival to a number of mobile messaging services, including BlackBerry Messenger, Apple’s forthcoming iMessage and Facebook’s new message app.
