Doro announces easy-to-use smartphone, along with plans for tablets and apps

Doro, which leads the European easy-to-use mobile phone market, has announced plans to produce an Android smartphone. It’s also working on dedicated applications and says it will expand the ‘Doro Experience’ to tablets and PCs.

The Doro PhoneEasy 740 is a 3G smartphone that offers a slide-open ‘big button’ numeric keypad. It’ll run a custom version of Android and will be available this summer.

This will be the first handset to offer the Doro Experience; an interface designed for a variety of smart devices. As well as providing straightforward on-device set-up, the Doro Experience can also be managed online. It means the user and their family can ‘push’ photos and applications to the phone.

Applications created by Doro and by third-party developers will be recommended  on the ‘Doro Selection’. This avoids the confusion of conventional app stores by including a limited number of applications specifically designed for Doro users. One of the first apps - Doro Friends - will offer a simpler way to access Facebook.

Jerome Arnaud, CEO at Doro, said “This week is a milestone in our story. The Doro Experience is a significant step forward in the direction of our offering. We continue to adapt to the evolving needs of the senior audience, which is overall becoming more tech savvy.”
