Opera Software helps mobile operators offer 'per hour' mobile web browsing

Opera Software has introduced a new ‘one click’ service that enables mobile operators to offer their customers access to the web as a value-added option. It’s called Opera Web Pass and allows operators to package mobile internet use in time or site-specific bundles.

For example, a customer who doesn’t have mobile data on their tariff could be offered an hour of web access via the Opera Mini browser for a fixed price - or could pay to access a particular site, such as Facebook, for a fixed period of time.

Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, said “We see this as a great way of lowering the bar for millions of users who are taking their first steps out to the mobile web. We are excited about working with our operator partners and making the web even more accessible and tailored to the needs of a growing mobile internet community. Opera Software has over 100 operator partners around the world and over 200 million users of our mobile products every month. The Opera Web Pass is in the sweet spot between the operator and the end user. Making the web smooth and simple, that is what Opera is all about.”

Opera Web Pass has already been launched in Malaysia by DiGi Telecommunications, which worked with Opera to develop the service.
