EE says its 4G service now covers half the UK population

EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) has switched on 4G coverage in 13 more towns and cities, which means that 50% of the UK population now has 4G coverage.

A total of 50 towns and cities currently have EE’s 4G service. Bradford, Bingley, Doncaster, Dudley, Harpenden, Leicester, Lichfield, Loughborough, Luton, Reading, Shipley, St Albans and West Bromwich are the latest additions.

Another 30 towns and cities are due to be added by the end of June, with 70% population coverage expected by the end of December.

Olaf Swantee, EE’s Chief Executive Officer, said “With these major milestones of 50 towns and cities and 50% of the population, we’re remaining ahead of our schedule to equip UK consumers and businesses with 4G. Our customers are at the heart of our rollout and we are working hard to deliver 4G to 70% of the UK population by the end of this year, and 98% of the population by the end of 2014.”

EE started its 4G service in the UK five months ago. The company says its 4G mobile service offers data speeds that are approximately five times faster than 3G, with average speeds of over 16Mbps and peak speeds of 50Mbps.
