Apple iPhone 3G S announced

Well, the cat is finally out of the bag. Apple has announced the iPhone 3G S, described as “the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet” (which is hardly surprising). It promises a faster processor, faster data speeds (7.2Mbps HSDPA) and a longer battery life. There’s a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, video recording, voice control and all the benefits of the previously-announced iPhone 3.0 operating system (due for release on 17th June). Oh, and a digital compass.

In the USA, the 16GB model is going to sell for $199 and the 32GB model for just $299, with the original iPhone 3G 8GB dropping to $99. In the UK, the iPhone 3GS will be available from 19th June. Both devices are still exclusive to O2 in the UK. The 16GB model will cost from nothing up to £184.98 depending on your tariff, with the 32GB costing up to £274.23. Using the iPhone as a modem will cost extra; O2 is creating an Internet Tethering Bolt-On charged at £14.68/month for 3GB of data, rising to £29.36/month for 10GB.
