3 UK starts selling ads on its mobile broadband dashboard

Here’s a press release that could be misinterpreted as a plea for help:

Mobile operator 3 UK today opens up its mobile broadband ‘dashboard’ as advertising real-estate for major brands. The dashboard, which launches every time a user connects to the internet, will be visible to more than 1m mobile broadband users and receives more than 30m impressions every month. 3 UK is currently looking for the initial set of exclusive advertising partners to sign up until the end of 2009.

However, this isn’t a brand-new idea but has already seen success abroad. 3’s Austrian network does something very similar with major brands seeing a click-through rate of up to 6%.
