Nuance acquires Swype

Voice technology company Nuance has acquired Swype, which launched its simplified on-screen text input service three years ago. Nuance is paying a total of $102.5 million (£66 million), with $77.5 million paid now and the final $25 million due in 18 months.

Swype was founded by Cliff Kushler - the co-inventor of the T9 predictive text-entry solution now owned by Nuance - and Randy Marsden, who developed the Windows on-screen keyboard.
