A fifth of online retail visits expected to be from mobile devices next year

US-based eCommerce business Shopatron predicts that the percentage of visits to its retail partners from mobile devices will grow to between 18% and 20% by the end of 2012. It’s seen the number of mobile visits to Shopatron brand partners grow from 6.5% to 12.2% this year.

Greg Squires, Online Marketing Manager for Shopatron, said “We have seen rapid growth in mobile this year, with visits to our mobile optimized client stores approaching double what we saw at the beginning of the year. And we expect that number to nearly double again in 2012. With this level of traffic, we recommend that brands pay special attention to their mobile presence and mobile marketing tactics in the coming year.”

The company also predicts that social networking will have a stronger influence on retail purchasing behaviour in 2012.
