Revenue for the year was up 101% from 2011, reaching €152.2 million (£129 million). Earnings were up 64% to €76.8 million while net profit was up 57% to €55.5 million.

Herkko Soininen, Rovio’s Chief Financial Officer, said “Year 2012 was another record-breaking year for Rovio. We doubled our revenue with an EBIT margin of 50%, more than doubled our headcount, established new offices and a New Business Ventures unit. Also, to protect our own, as well as our partners’ and our fans’ interests, we continue to invest heavily in brand protection globally.”

Major games releases for Rovio last year included Angry Birds Space, Amazing Alex, Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Star Wars. Total games downloads passed 1 billion in May and have now reached 1.7 billion, while the total number of active monthly users across all platforms had grown to 263 million by the end of the year.
