Apple offers an exchange scheme for dangerous and counterfeit iPhone power adaptors

Apple has announced a ‘USB Power Adapter Takeback Program’ to help reassure customers about the safety of iPhone chargers. A number of recent media reports have suggested that some counterfeit chargers or third-party chargers may be dangerous, with a woman in China reportedly killed and a Chinese man seriously injured in separate incidents last month.

From 16th August until 18th October 2013, customers who are concerned about any of their Apple USB power adapters can take them to an Apple Retail Store or a participating Apple Authorized Service Provider. They’ll be able to leave their worrisome adaptor and purchase an official Apple USB power adapter for just $10 or the local currency equivalent; around half the usual price. (Customers need to take their iPhone, iPad or iPod for its serial number to be validated and will only receive one replacement for each device).
