Sony launches its SmartEyeglass as an augmented reality rival to Google Glass

The ‘explorer edition’ of Google Glass was discontinued earlier this year - but now Sony has stepped into the market, releasing a ‘developer edition’ of the Sony SmartEyeglass. It’ll cost £620 and is already available to order in the UK, with availability expected from March.

The Sony product appears to be a conventional pair of glasses with black frames, although it has a wire leading from one side to a controller unit. The glasses contain a 3 megapixel camera and a microphone, as well as various motion sensors, and are compatible with Android smartphones.
