118800 mobile directory service launches

The UK's first directory enquiry service for mobile phones launched today. 118800.co.uk is charging £1 to find mobile telephone numbers from its database. Unlike other directory enquiry services, 118 800 doesn't reveal telephone numbers from its database but offers to connect the caller or passes the caller’s details to the person they want to contact. If you don’t want to be contacted, you can opt out… and if you’re not yet included you can opt in.

However, despite the launch announcement, the telephone-based part of the service isn’t working yet. Rory Cellan-Jones reported about the service on today’s BBC Working Lunch; his report starts after around 8 minutes on BBC iPlayer.
