Apple iPhone 3GS 'outsells iPhone 3G' in UK

Two days after the launch of version 3.0 of the Apple iPhone operating system comes the new iPhone 3GS. O2 reports that footfall is over 10 times higher than on an average day in its UK stores, with black iPhone 3GS phones outselling the white ones 3 to 1.

The company says Friday morning's sales were higher than for the 3G model last year, although global sales are expected to be less than the million iPhone 3G handsets sold during 'launch weekend' in 2008. Analyst Gene Munster from Piper Jaffray says he expects half a million iPhones to be sold worldwide by the end of this weekend; that figure includes the standard iPhone 3G, which has had its price cut to $99 in the USA. No figures yet on the Nokia N97, which also launched today. [Sources: O2 press release; AppleInsider.com]
