iZettle moves its mobile payment service beyond Europe by launching in Mexico

Mobile payment business iZettle has launched its service in Mexico today and has appointed former Visa executive Luis Arceo as Managing Director of its Mexican operations. It’s the first time iZettle has ben available outside Europe.

The Swedish company, which has been operating in the UK since May last year, is taking advantage of its recently-confirmed global partnership with Banco Santander to move into North America.

Jacob de Geer, co-founder and CEO of iZettle, said “Starting today, anyone selling anything in Mexico can take card payments – chip or magstripe – quickly and safely using their smartphone or tablet. This is the start of big change for Mexico, where accepting card payments has never before been an affordable option for new or small businesses. This is a very important day for us. Shifting from local to global operations in financial services in less than three years of operation is a major accomplishment from our perspective.”

iZettle’s services are EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) approved, are compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and are regulated by Sweden’s Financial Supervisory Authority.
