1 billion mobile M2M subscribers expected in 6 years

A new report from wireless analyst firm Berg Insight predicts there’ll be 1 billion cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) subscribers by 2022.

It says the number of cellular M2M customers worldwide increased by 23% last year to a total of 265.2 million, with 59 million of them in Western Europe. A similar annual increase is expected for the next five years: Berg Insight anticipates a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.9%, with the 1 billion subscriber mark reached in 2022.

Berg Insight points out that Verizon and Vodafone each reported quarterly revenue from M2M and the ‘Internet of Things’ in the range of €150-200 million for the first half of 2015.
