The average mobile phone user produces 25kg of CO2 per year

A report from Juniper Research says global shipments of ‘green’ mobile phones could increase from 250,000 devices this year to 485 million units in 2014, depending on consumer demand. Even a slight shift in consumer attitudes would see handset shipments exceeding 100 million in 2014.

It’s also calculated that the average mobile user is responsible for around 25kg of CO2 emissions per year - about the same as the average bus produces on a 12-mile trip - which resulted in a global total of 93 Megatonnes of CO2 last year. [Press release]
