56% of public WiFi users are connecting via mobile devices

Mobile media company JiWire has published its latest Mobile Audience Insights Report, which looks at the ways people use the internet in public locations across the USA.

56% of respondents said they connected to public WiFi via their smartphone or other mobile device, with 14% saying this was their primary device for connecting when they were out and about.

Apple devices (including the iPhone and iPod Touch) were the most popular mobile devices, although overall market share for the iPhone OS had dropped 2% from the previous quarter. Android's market share grew by 167% to put it in second place.
