AOL acquires mobile app business

Web services giant AOL has announced that Rally Up, a small California-based mobile applications business, will be joining it to build 'mobile first' products.

Rally Up has created two apps since it launched last year; location-based social network service Rally Up and an iPhone contact availability app called FacePlant.

AOL says the talent from the Rally Up team will help it go beyond producing mobile versions of its desktop and web offerings to creating all-new products that launch first on mobile devices.

David Temkin, Vice President of Mobile at AOL, said "Within the last year, the Rally Up team has demonstrated its keen understanding of the way that people want to use their mobile devices to interact, share and better communicate and of the tools necessary to address those needs. We are thrilled to have such a talented group of mobile innovators join AOL, especially given the rapid evolution of this space."
